Washington, D.C. – Former U.S. President Donald Trump expressed support for Ukraine’s request for more Patriot missile systems to strengthen its air defenses against continued Russian assaults.
The statement came following a discussion between Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, where they reportedly talked about enhancing Ukraine’s air defense capabilities. The two leaders also discussed potential joint production, procurement, and investment in defense and military technology.
President Zelenskyy said that planned meetings are already in place to further discuss the specifics of these initiatives, which are seen as crucial to Ukraine’s ongoing defense strategy.
Meanwhile, Kyiv issued a warning that its defensive capabilities could weaken after the U.S. paused its weapons shipments. However, optimism has grown following the 40-minute conversation between Trump and Zelenskyy, with both sides expressing hope that the missile supply might resume.
It’s worth noting that Ukraine had previously received Patriot missile systems from the U.S. as part of military aid under the administration of former President Joe Biden.
