The United States Congress convened to count the Electoral College votes and formally recognize President-elect Donald Trump’s victory in the 2024 presidential election.

Vice President Kamala Harris, who lost to Trump in the November 2024 election, presided over the joint session of Congress, where she serves as the President of the Senate, and officially announced the election results.

Trump won with 312 electoral votes, while Harris secured only 226.

There were no objections in the chamber when the results of the election from each state were announced.

The announcement of Trump’s victory coincided with an ongoing winter storm in the US, including Washington, D.C., where federal and local government offices were closed.

It is worth remembering that it has been four years since the attack on the US Capitol, after Trump’s supporters rioted following his loss in the 2020 election.

More than 1,500 individuals have been sentenced for their involvement in the January 6, 2021, attack, during which Trump promised to grant them pardons once he assumes his second term in office.
