Vice President Sara Duterte dismissed concerns over her impeachment by the House of Representatives, comparing the experience to the pain of a breakup.

In a press conference on Friday, February 7, Duterte responded to the House’s decision to move forward with impeachment proceedings, saying, “Mas masakit pa ang maiwanan ng boyfriend or girlfriend kaysa ma-impeach ng House of Representatives.”

In her first public comments following the vote, Duterte simply said, “Ang tanging masasabi ko na lamang sa puntong ito ay God save the Philippines.”

Duterte shared that she had been anticipating the impeachment proceedings since November 2023, when House Deputy Minority Leader France Castro revealed plans to file a complaint.

“So November of 2023, there were already lawyers doing their work for the impeachment. We leave it to the lawyers,” the Vice President said, emphasizing her preparedness for the situation.

“I’m okay,” she added, showing calm in the face of the political challenge ahead.
