The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has recommended the filing of criminal charges against Vice President Sara Duterte following her controversial remarks suggesting the assassination of President Bongbong Marcos and other officials.
In a recent radio interview, NBI Director Jaime Santiago confirmed that the agency had submitted its findings to the Department of Justice, urging the filing of charges against Duterte for incitement to sedition and grave threats.
Duterte’s response to the NBI’s recommendation was succinct: “As expected.”
The statements made by the Vice President in November 2024 sparked outrage after she allegedly mentioned a plot to kill President Marcos, First Lady Liza Araneta Marcos, and House Speaker Martin Romualdez, should she be killed.
She later clarified that her words were taken out of context.
This development has intensified political tensions, as an impeachment move against Duterte is also underway, adding more fuel to the ongoing controversy.
