πππ’πππ’ – The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) clarified the temporary closure of Iloilo International Airport this morning, December 22.
According to Art ParreΓ±o, CAAP Iloilo Airport terminal supervisor, they issued a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) at 7:00 AM to inform the public that a pothole on the runway would be repaired.
By 11:00 AM, the NOTAM was lifted, and flight operations resumed.
“At 7 AM, the NOTAM was issued by CAAP to inform everyone that CAAP ILO would be conducting runway repairs on a small pothole. At 11 AM, the NOTAM was lifted, and all flights to and from ILO Airport have resumed. Currently, PAL is conducting their boarding procedures for Manila,” ParreΓ±o stated.
One of the reasons for the delay in the resumption of flights after the NOTAM was lifted was the conduct of an inspection to ensure no debris remained on the runway that could cause accidents.
“After lifting the NOTAM, the protocol is to conduct runway inspections to ensure that it is safe and secure for flight resumption. We also check for any Foreign Objects and Debris (FOD) that may be left on the runway and could be ingested by aircraft engines. Thatβs why it took some time to clear the flights,” ParreΓ±o added.
