Peter Gagula, known in the fashion world as Peach Garde, an esteemed alumnus and part-time faculty member of Iloilo Science and Technology University (ISAT U), has been named the winner of TernoCon 2025, the prestigious national terno-making competition.
The event, jointly organized by the Cultural Center of the Philippines and BENCH/Suyen Corporation, saw Garde triumph over 12 finalists in a vibrant cultural show held on January 25, 2025.
Garde’s winning collection, which seamlessly blended the visual arts of 20th-century Philippines with modern design, included three stunning pieces: a formal terno with pañuelo, a Balintawak paired with alampay and tapis, and a Kimona with butterfly sleeves, alampay, and patadyong.
His work captivated judges and audiences alike, showcasing both traditional craftsmanship and contemporary flair.
“This win is a proud moment not just for ISAT U but for the entire Ilonggo community,” said Dr. Gabriel M. Salistre Jr., President of ISAT U. “Mr. Garde’s success highlights the university’s dedication to nurturing the next generation of Filipino designers who continue to celebrate and innovate on our rich cultural heritage.”
The TernoCon 2025 competition began with a series of thought-provoking lectures from fashion experts, including Gino Gonzales, multi-disciplinary artist Mark Lewis Lim Higgins, and chief curator Ma. Victoria “Boots” Herrera.
Participants were tasked with creating collections inspired by Philippine visual arts, drawing from the principles of painting, sculpture, and architecture.
Garde’s winning collection will be remembered as part of the ongoing evolution of the terno, joining the celebrated designs of past winners such as Yssa Inumerable, and continuing the tradition of pushing the boundaries of Philippine fashion.
