In a brief press conference on Friday, February 7, Vice President Sara Duterte responded to her impeachment with a message of gratitude and resilience. “God save the Philippines,” she said, referring to the ongoing political challenges she faces.

Duterte took the opportunity to thank her supporters, urging them to remain hopeful: “Manalig kayo dahil sa taumbayan ang tagumpay.” Her comments came just days after the House of Representatives impeached her on charges including “violation of the constitution, betrayal of public trust, graft and corruption, and other high crimes.”

While Duterte declined to answer several media questions, she did confirm that her camp had been preparing for the impeachment process since November 2023. This followed reports that Representative France Castro had announced plans to file a complaint against her.

The impeachment now moves to the Senate, where a tribunal will be convened to determine whether Duterte will remain in office or face removal.
