An unidentified vessel collided with a fishing boat carrying eight Filipino fishermen in the West Philippine Sea (WPS).

The Coast Guard District National Capital Region – Central Luzon reported that the incident occurred on January 30 but was only reported to authorities on February 16.

According to the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), the FBCA Prince Elmo 2 was struck by an unknown ship at around 8:00 PM on January 30 in an undisclosed location.

Five of the eight fishermen were rescued by MV DONG AN in waters near Vietnam, while three remain missing.

The PCG stated that after rescuing the survivors, the vessel conducted a search for the missing fishermen but was unable to locate them.

The Coast Guard deployed BRP Boracay along with a medical team to the waters off Corregidor Island to intercept MV DONG AN and retrieve the rescued fishermen.

The survivors were handed over to the Coast Guard Sub-Station Naic and the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) Naic for further assistance.
