On January 27, 2025, a horrifying crime unfolded in Barangay Lutac, City of Naga, Cebu, where a father brutally hacked his live-in partner and two of their three children to death.
The bodies of the victims—32-year-old Junelyn Gimenez, her 11-year-old son, and her two-year-old daughter—were discovered inside their home in Sitio Kamanggahan, each suffering fatal wounds to their necks and napes.
The 11-year-old boy had stayed home from school due to a toothache, while the two-year-old and her mother were found in a room. The youngest child, seven years old, was at school at the time of the attack.
The attacker, identified as Gimenez’s 33-year-old live-in partner, Carlo Camporedondo, used a machete-an instrument he typically used for his job selling coconuts on the streets of Cebu City— to carry out the killings.
It was reported that he had also intended to kill the children’s grandmother but she managed to escape.
Before fleeing, Camporedondo reportedly told the children’s grandfather that his partner and children were dead.
Family members of Gimenez revealed that they had previously advised her to leave Camporedondo after his violent behavior became apparent in 2024. They also alleged that he was using illegal drugs.
It was further disclosed that the 11-year-old victim had told relatives that his father would threaten to kill them whenever there was a fight.
However, neighbors reported not hearing any arguments or calls for help on the day of the incident.
The police are investigating the possibility that Camporedondo may have been under the influence of drugs during the attack.
By 4 p.m. on the same day, the suspect was apprehended in a hot pursuit operation with the help of local village watchmen.
