As President Donald Trump opened his address to a joint session of Congress, Democratic Rep. Al Green of Texas stood up to shout in protest, interrupting the president’s speech.

In an effort to silence him, Republican lawmakers began chanting “USA!” but Green remained defiant, continuing to shout at Trump. At the same time, other Democrats in the chamber staged a silent protest, holding signs and wearing T-shirts critical of Trump and his policies.

In response, House Speaker Mike Johnson instructed the sergeant-at-arms to remove Green from the chamber.

While not officially a State of the Union address, Trump’s speech served as an opportunity to outline his legislative agenda and tout his early accomplishments.

Since taking office, Trump has signed more than 75 executive orders in just over a month, quickly moving to fulfill his campaign promises. He highlighted some of these actions in his speech on Tuesday.
