ILOILO CITY-The Department of Public Works and Highways Region 6 hopes that the Iloilo City Council will give them a resumption order to continue the construction of the seawall in Rizal Pala-Pala and Tanza Bonifacio, IIoilo City Proper.
In an interview with Bombo Radyo, Engr. Sanny Boy Oropel, director of the Department of Public Works and Highways Region 6, said he has already explained to the council that the seawall being constructed with a P400-M fund from the national government is a stand alone project and not a reclamation project.
According to Oropel, even the Philippine Reclamation Authority has made it clear that they do not need to issue a clearance because it is not a reclamation activity.
Oropel said he hopes that the civil works on the seawall will be resumed so that the money that has already been used for its construction will not be wasted.
He added that the purpose of the project is to provide protection to the residents and property along the coast in these areas against large waves especially during the rainy season and during typhoons.
