ILOILO – Authorities have yet to file charges against the suspect in the fatal shooting of a fishpond guard in Sitio Bulod 2, Barangay Pulao, Dumangas, Iloilo.

The victim, identified as Jomarie Torres, 32, was a resident of Barangay Cabilauan, Barotac Nuevo, Iloilo.

In an interview with Bombo Radyo, Police Major Kenn Albert Lepsia, chief of the Dumangas Municipal Police Station, stated that the victim’s family is still in mourning, which is why they have not yet filed a case against the suspect.

Lepsia added that they currently have only one witness who can help solve the crime.

According to residents in the area, they heard gunshots around 11 p.m. on February 9.

However, the victim’s body was only discovered in the afternoon of February 10 when the owner’s sibling visited the fishpond.

Reports revealed that before the incident, Torres had been drinking at the fishpond owner’s house, approximately 300 meters away from the hut where he was found dead.

The victim sustained eight gunshot wounds inflicted by a 12-gauge shotgun.

Authorities are still investigating the case.
