The Iloilo City Health Office has praised the strong performance of Barangay Bantud, La Paz, Iloilo City, as it has not recorded any cases of dengue since last year.
In a presentation by Jennifer Christie Avenir, Sanitation Inspection VI of the office, she stated that this outcome reflects the cooperation and collaboration of both the officials and residents of the barangay, including their efforts in maintaining cleanliness.
Even though no cases have been reported, Avenir mentioned that the clean-up drive in the area continues.
The concerned authorities hope that other areas in the city will follow this example to prevent a rise in mosquito breeding grounds.
Based on records from the Iloilo City Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit, some of the leading barangays with dengue cases from January 1 to April 5 include Sooc in Arevalo with six cases, five cases each in Molo Boulevard, Tagbac, Calaparan, Sambag, Jereos, Tabuc Suba in Jaro, Lanit, and Bakhaw, four cases each in San Juan, Sto. Niño Norte, Guzman Jesena, South Fundidor, Sto. Niño Sur, Tanza Esperanza, San Isidro in Jaro, Cuartero, and West Timawa.
Calumpang, Bonifacio Tanza, and MV Hechanova each have three cases, while Balabago and Bolilao each have two.
The city’s anti-dengue efforts, which include active monitoring, quick medical response, community fogging, and public awareness campaigns, have been in place since a major outbreak in 2019. City health teams are also offering free consultations and blood tests at district health centers. Residents experiencing symptoms such as fever, headache, or body aches are urged to seek medical attention immediately for early detection and contact tracing.#
