Quezon City, Philippines – In a bid to curb the growing spread of misinformation and disinformation across the country, the Philippine National Police (PNP) officially launched the Joint Anti-Fake News Action Committee (JAFNAC) at the Multi-Purpose Hall of Camp Crame in Quezon City.

During an interview with Bombo Radyo, PNP Chief Police General Rommel Francisco Marbil stated that the creation of JAFNAC is part of an inter-agency approach aimed at addressing the proliferation of fake news, especially on social media platforms.

According to Marbil, the committee seeks to hold fake news peddlers accountable and develop systems that will enable the swift takedown of misleading information circulating online and on various digital platforms.

The launch was attended by key officials from multiple government agencies, including the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), and the Presidential Communications Office (PCO).

The PNP also plans to establish a national monitoring system powered by artificial intelligence to detect disinformation trends in real time through an AI-enabled dashboard.
