Madrid, Spain – House Speaker Martin Romualdez has called for stronger international cooperation to address the growing threats posed by artificial intelligence (AI), particularly its misuse in spreading disinformation, influencing political outcomes, and weakening democratic institutions.

Speaking at the 29th Parliamentary Intelligence-Security Forum (PI-SF) held in Madrid, Romualdez raised concern over what he described as “unseen battles” driven by data manipulation, cyberattacks, and AI-generated propaganda.

“In today’s era marked by rampant misinformation, cyber warfare, and the disruptive power of AI, it is imperative that democracies work together and remain vigilant,” Romualdez emphasized.

He also highlighted the Philippines’ leadership role in spearheading a resolution during the 45th ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly. The resolution encourages member states to adopt coordinated strategies to ensure the responsible use of artificial intelligence.

Romualdez further stressed that digital technologies must remain tools for progress and unity—not division.
