South Korea’s highest-paid actor, Kim Soo Hyun, has denied allegations from the YouTube channel Hoverlab, which claimed he was in a relationship with actress Kim Sae Ron when she was 15 years old.
His agency, Gold Medalist, issued an official statement refuting the claims and announcing plans to take legal action against Hoverlab for spreading false information.
“The claims made about Kim Soo Hyun on YouTube today are completely false,” the agency stated. “We are reviewing the strongest possible legal action.”
The controversy arose after the YouTube channel GaroSaero Research aired an interview featuring a woman claiming to be Kim Sae Ron’s aunt. She alleged that the late actress dated Kim Soo Hyun at 15 and that their relationship lasted six years.
Gold Medalist also expressed condolences over Kim Sae Ron’s passing, stating, “We are deeply heartbroken by the news of the late Kim Sae Ron’s death, as she was once part of our company, and we mourn her passing.”
The agency further noted that Kim Soo Hyun has exhibited signs of “severe psychological instability” following the allegations, which prompted them to release the statement.
Kim Sae Ron, who was under Gold Medalist from 2020 to 2022, faced career setbacks after a DUI incident in 2022. She was found deceased at her home in Seoul on Feb. 16, with no signs of foul play. Her funeral was held on Feb. 19.
Kim Soo Hyun, 37, remains one of South Korea’s most successful actors, known for hit dramas such as My Love from the Star, The Moon Embracing the Sun, and Queen of Tears.
