The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) has assured the public of the safety of several Filipino government officials who were stranded in Israel following the escalation of conflict between Israel and Iran.

According to OWWA, a total of 17 Filipino officials are currently in a secure location in Israel. The group includes nine mayors, four vice mayors, two party-list representatives, and two regional directors.

These officials were in Israel participating in a short course and were originally scheduled to return to the Philippines last week.

In a statement, OWWA Administrator Patricia Caunan confirmed that the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), in coordination with other government agencies, is continuously providing assistance to the stranded officials.

Administrator Caunan expressed optimism that the officials will be able to return to the Philippines in the coming days.
