Two women riding a motorcycle were killed in a collision with a van in Barangay Tubigan, Zarraga, Iloilo, on Wednesday evening.

The victims were identified as Mary Grace Condino Mandate, 30, of Barangay Bolilao, Mandurriao, who was driving the motorcycle, and her back rider, Mara Heradora Cordova, 31, of Barangay Poblacion, Bago City, Negros Occidental.

The van driver was identified as Jerry Tolentino Gonzales, 53, a resident of Ledesma Street, Pototan, Iloilo.

In an interview with Bombo Radyo, Police Captain Dandy Ilalto, chief of the Zarraga Municipal Police Station, said the motorcycle had just come from Dumangas Port and was headed to Iloilo City, while the van was traveling toward Dumangas.

Initial investigations revealed that both vehicles were speeding when the accident occurred.

After the collision, Gonzales reportedly left the van and rode a tricycle to surrender at the Leganes Municipal Police Station. He was later turned over to the Zarraga Police for further investigation.

Earlier that evening, a van also crashed into a house in Tagbak, Jaro, Iloilo City, at around 8:00 PM. Photos taken by the house owner matched the plate number of the van involved in the Zarraga accident.

According to homeowner Rinalyn Turba, she and her family were inside their house when they heard the crash. She expressed her intent to file charges and seek compensation for the damages caused by the incident.
