The Philippine Embassy in Muscat, Oman, is currently providing care for 17 Filipino seafarers who were released after being held captive by Houthi rebels for over a year.
In a statement issued on Thursday, January 23, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. announced the safe release of the crew members of the M/V Galaxy Leader, including the Filipino seafarers.
“We are overjoyed that our seafarers have been freed and are now safe.
The government remains committed to ensuring the safety and welfare of Filipinos worldwide,” President Marcos said.
Details regarding the conditions of their captivity and the efforts to secure their release have not been disclosed.
The government has assured the seafarers and their families of continuous support during their recovery.
The successful release of the seafarers has brought immense relief to their families and the Filipino maritime community, who had anxiously awaited their return.
