MANILA – The Commission on Elections (Comelec) announced on Monday the appointment of Maria Norina Tangaro-Casingal as the newest commissioner of the poll body. Casingal, who currently serves as the law department director at Comelec, received an ad interim appointment from President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr., which will remain effective until February 2, 2032.

In a press conference, Comelec Chairman George Garcia confirmed the appointment, expressing confidence in Casingal’s leadership. “The President has extended to her an ad interim appointment, ensuring her role for the next seven years,” Garcia stated.

Casingal, who has been with the Comelec for 27 years, expressed surprise at being selected by the President for the prestigious position. “I was truly surprised, but I am honored by the trust and confidence,” she said.

She will be stepping into the position previously held by Commissioner Socorro Inting, whose term is set to conclude soon.

Casingal’s extensive experience within Comelec is expected to guide her in overseeing the electoral body’s crucial functions in the coming years.
