𝗜𝗟𝗢𝗜𝗟𝗢 𝗖𝗜𝗧𝗬 – The observance of Leprosy Control Week in the last week of February aims to raise public awareness and eliminate misconceptions about leprosy, also known as aro.
Dr. Felina Joyce Dy, Associate Member of the International Society of Dermatology, explained in an interview with Bombo Radyo that leprosy is a contagious disease transmitted through droplets from an infected person’s saliva.
However, she clarified that patients do not need to be isolated.
Once they have been on medication for more than a month, they are no longer contagious.
Dr. Dy also urged the public to provide emotional and social support to those recovering from leprosy, emphasizing that misinformation should not lead to discrimination against patients.
