The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) has officially reopened the fishing season in the Visayan Sea following a three-month fishing ban that began on November 15, 2024.
BFAR Region 6 Director Remia Aparri confirmed in an interview with Bombo Radyo that fishing activities resumed on February 15.
Aparri highlighted that the Visayan Sea is abundant in fish species commonly used for sardine production, such as herring and mackerel.
The fishing ban was imposed due to declining fish stocks in the area, as observed by BFAR.
The reopening of the fishing season was carried out in collaboration with the Philippine Coast Guard, the Philippine Navy, the Philippine National Police Maritime Group, and local government units.
