Vice President Sara Duterte arrived in Amsterdam on Thursday, just hours before her father, former President Rodrigo Duterte, was transferred to The Hague Penitentiary Institution to face trial before the International Criminal Court (ICC).
The Office of the Vice President (OVP) confirmed that Duterte landed in Amsterdam at 7:49 p.m. (Central European Time), or past 2 a.m. in the Philippines.
On Thursday, March 13, she is scheduled to meet with lawyers and seek access to her father, who remains in detention while awaiting trial for alleged crimes against humanity linked to his administration’s war on drugs. She is also expected to hold a media interview in The Hague on Friday, March 14.
The vice president traveled to the Netherlands on Wednesday morning via Emirates Airlines. Her brother, Davao City Representative Paolo “Pulong” Duterte, was also granted travel clearance for a personal trip to Japan and the Netherlands.
Rodrigo Duterte was taken into custody late Tuesday morning upon his arrival in the Philippines from Hong Kong. He was later transported to the Netherlands, with his plane landing at Rotterdam The Hague Airport at 4:54 p.m. (11:54 p.m. Manila time) on Wednesday. He arrived at The Hague Penitentiary Institution at 7:34 p.m. (2:34 a.m. Philippine time) aboard a black vehicle.
