Manila, Philippines – The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) confirmed on Friday that four Filipino fatalities from the powerful 7.7-magnitude earthquake in Myanmar have been positively identified through DNA testing.
NBI Director Jaime Santiago shared the update with reporters, stating, “The four Filipinos who died in the Myanmar earthquake have been positively identified through our DNA testing.”
Authorities had earlier collected DNA samples from decomposed bodies believed to be those of a missing Filipino couple and their relatives who were caught in the disaster.
Further details on the victims’ identities and the circumstances of their deaths have not been released as of this time.
The devastating earthquake struck Myanmar earlier this week, leaving dozens dead and widespread damage in its wake. Efforts are ongoing to identify victims and repatriate remains.
