The Philippine Air Force (PAF) demonstrated its Combat Search and Rescue (CSAR) capabilities as part of the ongoing Balikatan Exercises 2025, focusing on realistic operations designed to rescue aircraft crew from hostile territory.

During the drills, air force personnel carried out a simulated rescue mission involving the extraction of aircrew from a downed aircraft in enemy waters. Using Bell 205A and Super Huey helicopters, they conducted helocast insertions and hoist extractions with support from aerial security units, successfully evacuating the crew to safety.

On the side of the United States, a C-130J aircraft was deployed to airdrop medical and survival kits to assist rescuers in providing aid to injured aircrew. Additionally, the United States Marine Corps utilized a V-22 Osprey aircraft to conduct a similar mission.

According to the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), the complex CSAR drills aim to enhance the country’s preparedness for life-saving missions in high-threat or conflict-prone areas.

The coastal waters and shores of Iba, Zambales served as the main venue for the exercise.
