U.S. President Donald Trump has deployed the National Guard to Los Angeles in an effort to control ongoing protests sparked by his administration’s aggressive immigration crackdown.

Since Friday, demonstrators have been gathering outside an immigration holding center in Alameda to protest what they describe as mass arrests of undocumented immigrants. The unrest comes in response to the Trump administration’s intensified immigration enforcement efforts, which have led to the arrest of approximately 44,000 individuals by federal immigration authorities.

In response to the growing protests, around 2,000 National Guard troops have been sent to the area. Tensions escalated as authorities used tear gas and flash bangs to disperse crowds, raising concerns among civil rights groups.

The League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) strongly condemned Trump’s decision to use the National Guard, warning that it could further inflame an already volatile situation.

This development follows Trump’s hardline stance on immigration, which has included the deportation of thousands of undocumented migrants and stricter border enforcement.
