The pro-Palestinian Freedom Flotilla Coalition (FFC) has confirmed that Israeli forces intercepted and boarded the aid ship Madleen while it was en route to the Gaza Strip. The vessel, flying under a British flag, was reportedly carrying 11 international activists, including prominent Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg and a journalist.

The incident occurred in international waters, according to the FFC, which described the interception as an “assault.” The group alleged that Israeli forces surrounded the yacht with quadcopters, doused it with a paint-like substance, and disrupted communications with the ship. Additionally, disturbing noises were reportedly broadcast over the radio during the interception.

Images shared by the coalition show passengers aboard the Madleen seated with life jackets on, their hands raised in a sign of compliance.

Greta Thunberg, widely known for her outspoken calls on global leaders to take urgent action on climate change, was one of the key figures aboard the vessel. Her presence on the mission has drawn international attention to the ongoing humanitarian situation in Gaza.

The Madleen was part of the Freedom Flotilla’s continuing efforts to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza by sea — an initiative frequently blocked by Israeli authorities citing security concerns.

As of now, there has been no official statement from the Israeli government regarding the operation. Human rights and activist groups around the world have begun calling for transparency and the immediate release of all those on board.
