A recent survey by Social Weather Stations (SWS) shows an increase in the percentage of Filipino families experiencing involuntary hunger in the past three months.

The hunger rate recorded in December reached 25.9%, up from 22.9% in September.

This is the highest rate since the 30.7% recorded during the COVID-19 lockdowns in September 2020.

The survey found that 18.7% of respondents experienced moderate hunger, while 7.2% suffered from severe hunger.

Mindanao had the highest hunger rate at 30.3%, followed by Balance Luzon (25.3%), the Visayas (24.4%), and Metro Manila (22.2%).

The survey, conducted from December 12 to 18, 2024, interviewed 2,160 individuals.
