A security guard at SM Megamall in Mandaluyong has been terminated following the release of a disturbing viral video that showed him mistreating a young girl selling sampaguita flowers outside the mall.
The video, which has been widely shared across various social media platforms, depicts a school-uniformed girl sitting on the platform near the entrance when the security guard reportedly told her to leave. The guard then forcibly grabbed the sampaguita flowers she was holding and threw them to the ground.
In response, the girl became visibly upset and attempted to strike the guard, who blocked her attempts. The video also shows the guard kicking the girl in the left thigh and striking her several times.
Shortly after the footage went viral, SM Megamall issued a statement expressing regret over the incident. The mall clarified that it had contacted the security agency responsible for the guard and demanded an immediate investigation.
“We deeply regret and sympathize with the young girl who experienced this unfortunate incident outside our mall,” the statement said. “As SM Supermalls is committed to promoting inclusivity for all, we strongly condemn the actions committed against her.”
The statement further confirmed that the security guard had been dismissed and would no longer be allowed to work at any SM mall.
