𝗜𝗟𝗢𝗜𝗟𝗢 – Three candidates from Western Visayas have filed applications for an exemption from the election gun ban.
The nationwide gun ban is set to start on Sunday, January 12, coinciding with the start of the election period for the May 12, 2025 elections.
In an interview with Bombo Radyo, Police Brigadier General Jack Wanky, director of the Police Regional Office 6, confirmed that the applicants are from Iloilo.
Wanky stated that they have already forwarded the candidates’ request to the Philippine National Police (PNP) National Headquarters.
The main reason for their request is the threats to their personal security.
The PNP Intelligence Group will conduct an assessment of the situation.
Exemptions from the election gun ban are subject to approval by the Committee on Ban on Firearms and Security Concerns of the Commission on Elections (COMELEC).
If granted the exemption, the candidates will be allowed to carry firearms for personal protection.
It is known that, as a general rule, bona fide police officers, military personnel, and members of government law enforcement agencies who are in full uniform and on official duty are exempt from the election gun ban throughout the election period.
