Davao City 1st District Representative Paolo Duterte has expressed his strong condemnation of the ongoing impeachment efforts against Vice President Sara Duterte, calling the actions of certain lawmakers a politically motivated and dangerous assault on democracy.
In a statement released today, Duterte voiced his outrage over what he described as “sinister maneuvering” led by Iloilo 1st District Representative Janette Garin and others, accusing them of rushing to collect signatures and hastily pushing forward the impeachment proceedings without merit. He labeled the efforts as “baseless” and an example of “political persecution.”
“I am appalled and enraged by the desperate and politically motivated efforts to railroad the impeachment of Vice President Sara Duterte,” Duterte stated. “This is a clear act of political persecution.”
The congressman further warned that the administration is “treading on dangerous ground,” drawing attention to what he sees as the reckless disregard for the Filipino people’s will. He referenced the massive rally of over one million Iglesia Ni Cristo supporters, asserting that if the government dismissed such a powerful show of unity, it could lead to even greater unrest.
Duterte warned that the growing dissatisfaction across the nation could not be contained and cautioned the Marcos administration against thinking they could push the impeachment forward without facing repercussions.
“This is not just about VP Sara Duterte—this is about the will of the Filipino people,” Duterte said. “The reckless abuse of power will not end in their favor.”
