𝗖𝗔𝗟𝗜𝗡𝗢𝗚, 𝗜𝗟𝗢𝗜𝗟𝗢 – A retired army officer lost his life after his motorcycle collided with a truck carrying sugarcane in Barangay Libot, Calinog, Iloilo.
The victim was identified as Technical Sergeant Remegio Guillermo, 72, a resident of the area.
The truck driver, Ferdinand Gumalid, 59, is from Poblacion, Tapaz, Capiz.
According to Police Master Sergeant Rodney Mirasol, investigator of the Calinog Municipal Police Station, Guillermo was on his way home when he accidentally hit a roadwork signage for a drainage project.
The impact caused him to lose control of his motorcycle, sending him directly under the approaching truck.
Due to the severe impact, Guillermo sustained a fatal head injury, which led to his immediate death.
As of now, the truck driver is in the custody of the Calinog Municipal Police Station.
Initial discussions between the victim’s family and the driver suggest that both parties are working towards a settlement.
