TUBUNGAN, ILOILO – The suspect in the killing of a teenage girl in Barangay Ingay, Tubungan has admitted to the crime.
The suspect, identified as 33-year-old Aljohn Jalbuna, a resident of the same barangay, voluntarily surrendered to authorities early this morning.
According to Jalbuna, he was allegedly intoxicated when the incident happened. He confessed to entering the room of the 18-year-old victim, identified only by her alias “Jeje,” by climbing through the window with the intent of touching her inappropriately.
He claimed that when the girl screamed, he panicked and covered her mouth. Jalbuna denied punching the victim, stating instead that she hit her head on the floor during a struggle while trying to escape.
He also denied sexually assaulting the victim, contradicting the findings of the autopsy which revealed injuries to her private parts and lower back.
Jalbuna said that after the victim lost consciousness, he placed her on a pillow, covered her with a blanket, and then left the house and went home. He said he only learned the next day that the victim had died.
Overcome with remorse, Jalbuna decided to turn himself in. He insisted that he had no romantic or sexual interest in the victim.
He has since apologized to the victim’s family and expressed deep regret over his actions.
