ILOILO CITY – The heat index in Iloilo City surged to 41°C on Wednesday, prompting health and disaster officials to urge residents to take necessary precautions to prevent heat-related illnesses.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) attributed the high heat index to the prevailing Easterlies, which are bringing warm and humid air across the country.

Authorities have advised the public to stay hydrated, avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, and wear light-colored clothing to minimize the risk of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. The Department of Health (DOH) also reminded residents to be on the lookout for symptoms such as dizziness, excessive sweating, and nausea, which may indicate heat-related conditions.

In response to the intense heat, some local schools have adjusted their schedules, with certain institutions suspending afternoon classes to protect students from the extreme temperatures.

PAGASA has warned that the heat index may continue to rise in the coming weeks as the dry season intensifies. The agency has urged the public to stay updated on weather forecasts and take the necessary precautions to stay safe during these extreme heat conditions.
