LAMBUNAO, ILOILO – A drinking session turned fatal in Barangay Bagongbong, Lambunao, Iloilo, as a man hacked his relative to death before fleeing with the weapon.
The victim, identified as Jeofrey (not his real name), 27 years old, a resident of the same barangay, was fatally attacked by the suspect, known as Ron-Ron (not his real name), a single man from Valderrama, Antique.
According to an interview by Bombo Radyo with Police Major Roy Tayona, chief of Lambunao Municipal Police Station, the suspect fled the scene carrying the bolo used in the crime. Tayona revealed that the two men were relatives.
Initial investigations disclosed that the victim and the suspect, along with their friends, were drinking alcohol on January 1 when an argument broke out between the two, allegedly fueled by intoxication.
In the heat of the moment, Ron-Ron reportedly took a machete from Jeofrey’s home and hacked him, leading to his death.
Authorities are now preparing to file a murder charge against the suspect, who remains at large.
