ILOILO CITY – The highly anticipated Iloilo River North Bank Road, popularly known as the Sunset Boulevard, officially opened today, January 24, 2025, marking a significant milestone in Iloilo City’s infrastructure and urban development.

The opening event featured biking and tree-planting activities, followed by a formal ceremony graced by key figures, including former Senator Franklin Drilon, Iloilo City Lone District Representative Jamjam Baronda, and Ms. Raisa Treñas-Chu, who delivered the welcome message on behalf of Mayor Jerry Treñas.

The Iloilo Sunset Boulevard is a P2.261-billion landmark project designed with sustainability and recreation in mind.

The five-kilometer, four-lane boulevard connects Barangay Tabucan in Mandurriao district to Barangay Cagbang in Oton.

It boasts bike lanes, solar-powered LED lights, flowering trees, scenic viewing decks, and a picturesque esplanade walkway with concrete pavers.

Mayor Treñas expressed his gratitude to Senator Drilon, who played a pivotal role in initiating the project, and to the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) for their dedication.

Ms. Treñas-Chu, standing in for the mayor, extended a warm welcome to ambassadors visiting the city for the ongoing Dinagyang Festival 2025.

The event radiated festive energy as guests, officials, and residents shared smiles and celebrated the new infrastructure’s opening.

The Sunset Boulevard is expected to ease traffic between Iloilo City and Oton while providing a recreational haven for residents and visitors alike, solidifying its place as a vital addition to Iloilo’s vibrant urban landscape.
