ILOILO CITY – The heat index in Iloilo soared to 37°C on Monday, prompting health and disaster officials to urge residents to take necessary precautions against heat-related illnesses.

According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), the high heat index is due to the prevailing Easterlies, bringing warm and humid air across the country.

Authorities have advised the public to stay hydrated, avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, and wear light-colored clothing to prevent heat exhaustion and heat stroke.

The Department of Health (DOH) also reminded residents to watch out for symptoms such as dizziness, excessive sweating, and nausea, which could indicate heat-related conditions.

Meanwhile, some local schools have adjusted their schedules, with certain institutions suspending afternoon classes to protect students from extreme heat.

PAGASA warned that the heat index may continue to rise in the coming weeks as the dry season intensifies.

The agency also urged the public to monitor weather updates and take necessary precautions to stay safe during extreme heat conditions.
