The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has recommended filing criminal charges for grave threats and inciting to sedition against Vice President Sara Duterte.
This comes after allegations that Duterte had threatened to have President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, and House Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez killed, should anything happen to her.
NBI Director Jaime Santiago confirmed that the complaint has been forwarded to the Department of Justice (DOJ) for further investigation and possible prosecution.
The investigation stems from claims made by Duterte that, should any harm come to her, she had allegedly ordered the assassination of the President, First Lady, and House Speaker.
This follows a subpoena issued by the NBI, calling the Vice President for clarification on the threat.
During a press briefing on February 7, Vice President Duterte denied making any such statements.
She claimed that she did not remember making any remarks about having President Marcos killed and suggested that it was only the administration talking about assassinations, gunmen, and threats.
However, this stands in stark contrast to her previous admission in a video released on November 23, 2024, where she allegedly acknowledged hiring a gunman to assassinate President Marcos, First Lady Liza, and Speaker Romualdez.
The legal proceedings surrounding this case will continue as the DOJ assesses the NBI’s findings.
The outcome of this investigation could have significant political and legal ramifications for the country’s political leadership.
