Two Ilonggos brought pride to Iloilo after excelling in two separate licensure examinations.
Engineer Cheo Anthony Tayag Malco, a native of Tigbauan, Iloilo and an alumnus of the Iloilo Science and Technology University, ranked 5th in the Licensure Examination for Electrical Engineers with an outstanding average rating of 92.55%.
Meanwhile, Gaudencio Ramos Jurado III, a native of Pavia, Iloilo and a graduate of the Western Institute of Technology, placed 3rd in the Registered Master Electricians Licensure Examination with a rating of 83.50%.
In an interview with Bombo Radyo, Engineer Malco shared that his father, who is currently a farmer, was his inspiration for pursuing engineering. According to Malco, it was also his father’s dream to become an engineer, but financial difficulties prevented him from completing his college education.
Malco’s mother, a teacher in a school in Iloilo City, also played a major role in supporting his education and helping him reach his goals.
In the same interview with Bombo Radyo, Jurado shared that he graduated with a degree in Electrical Engineering in 2024 but chose to first take the Registered Master Electricians exam.
He added that his passion for electronics began in high school and continued through college. Jurado admitted that he never expected to become a topnotcher and even doubted if he would pass, as many of the topics he studied didn’t appear in one of the subjects in the exam.
He humbly said he doesn’t consider himself an achiever, but credits his success to being diligent in school and committed to studying.#
